किसी भी माह के सोमवार को पड़ने वाली अमावस्या को सोमवती अमावस्या कहते हैं |
सोमवती अमावस्या विशेषतः पूर्वजों के तर्पण के लिए जाना जाता है | इस दिन पूर्वजों
की मुक्ति और उनको शांति प्रदान करने के लिए लोग पीपल के पेड़ के नीचे बैठकर शनि
देव के मंत्र का जाप करते हैं | इस वर्ष सोमवती अमावस्या १५ अक्टूबर को है | इस
दिन स्नान और दान का विशेष महत्व है, इसके आलावा मौनव्रत रखना विशेष फलदायी होता
है |
देव ऋषि व्यास जी के अनुसार- इस दिन मौन व्रत, स्नान और दान
सहस्त्रो गोदान के बराबर होता है | सोमवती अमावस्या के दिन लोग व्रत रहते हुए पीपल
के पेड़ की १०८ बार परिक्रमा करतें हैं साथ ही साथ “विष्णु भगवान” की पूजा करते
हैं तथा अपने सामर्थ्य अनुसार दान करतें हैं | यह व्रत विशेषतः महिलाओं द्वारा
संपन्न किया जाता है |
When no moon
day (Amavasya) fall on Monday(somwar) then the day is called 'SomvatiAmavasya. The most important
ritual associated with this day is bathing in sacred rivers. It’s importance is
told by Bhishma to Yudhishter that one who baths in sacred rivers, that will be
relieved from disease. It is also called "RogMuktisnan".Also the
Amavasya is ruled by our ancestors and its signification increased many times
when it coincides with Monday. 'Tarpan' performed on this day is considered
very auspicious to get the blessings from the deceased
souls. Charity done on this day is equivalent to donating thousands cows. Parikrama (revolve) around Peepal tree for
108 times is one of the important ritual. "Om NamoBhagwateyVasudevay"
is the mantra which could be chanted while doing parikrama in a clockwise
direction. Peepal tree is considered as the manifestation of
"Tridev",the Brahma, Vishnu
and Mahesh. SomvatiAmavasya is equivalent to 100 eclipse which shows the
importance of this day. This day is excellent for fasting for the longevity of
happy married life.
